Sharedband uses commodity routers, one per line, which are upgraded with a simple piece of software which can be downloaded from the Sharedband website over the Internet. Alternatively your service provider may preinstall the software on the routers as part of the service.
Once they are installed and configured, the routers collaborate over your Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN) to manage the flow of data packets across your multiple broadband connections.
The software supports the vast majority of applications and networking protocols. Sharedband is easy to use and is based on packet data transfers to ensure compatibility.
The aggregation software hosted on the Sharedband servers combines the streams of data traversing the multiple broadband connections and connects directly to the Internet with minimal added latency.
Because the aggregation occurs at the IP layer, different Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and infrastructures can be used for each line (i.e. ADSL, Cable or even T1 connections) - this significantly improves resilience when compared to a single provider solution.
